HTML Editor

Find this feature

This feature is available on a number of screens which accept text input for your site.  This includes most features in the Store Profile area.

Introduction

Many text editing areas in the Site Manager (such as many Store Profile sections and Affiliate Profile Manager) have an HTML Editor.  You can use this editor to decorate your text with color and styles, as well as add pictures and hyperlinks.  No prior knowledge of HTML is required.

This feature works much like many word processing programs.  Use the tools on the top toolbar to make the text bold , italic , underlined , strikethrough , change the font or font size, color the text , color behind the text ,  justify the text  (left, right, center, justify), add pictures , and add hyperlinks and e-mail links  to text or images.  Or you can do several of these things at once.

Adding Images

To add an image, place the cursor where you would like the image to appear and click the Insert/Edit Image icon: .

The Image Properties window appears

In the URL box, enter the full path to the image you wish to add.  (Your image must be uploaded to your site already.  See the Upload Files topic to learn how to do this.)

Alternative Text will appear when a visitor hovers over the image, and to blind visitors.

You can specify the Width and Height of the image, or just click the Reset Size button  to automatically pick up the size.

You can also specify Border, Horizontal and Vertical Space, and Alignment.

Use the Link tab at the top if you wish for the image to also be a link to another page.

You must enter the new page address in the URL field, and can choose how you want the new page to appear by making a selection in the Target field.

Use the Advanced tab options only if you are an advanced user and familiar with advanced HTML options.  This is a very optional tab.

When done entering information and making changes to the Image Properties window, click the  button.

Adding Hyperlinks

A hyperlink is a text which a visitor can click to view another page or more information.

To create a hyperlink to your text, select the text and click the Insert/Edit Link button .

The Link window appears

Most links will be URL (to a specific Web page) or E-mail (to an e-mail address).  Make that selection on the Link Type menu.

The Protocol selection will almost always be http:// unless you are an advanced user referring to a secure page, file transfer protocols, or other advanced options.

Enter the Web site address (or e-mail address if you are creating an e-mail link) into the URL

Use the Target tab to determine how the viewer arrives at the new Web page.

If the link you are creating directs your visitor to one of your Web pages, either leave the Target field for <not set>, or Same Window (_self).

If the link directs the visitor to a different Web page and you want the new page to open in a separate window, choose New Window (_blank).

You can name the new window by entering a name into the Target Frame Name box.

Use the Advanced tab options only if you are an advanced user and familiar with advanced HTML options.  This is a very optional tab.

When done entering information and making changes to the Link window, click the  button.

Other functions allow you to customize your text and image display:

The Insert Smiley button  allows you to insert a variety of graphical images into the space.

The Insert Special Character button  allows you to insert non-standard characters.

If you are familiar with HTML, you may want to use the Source button  which will display HTML code instead of the formatted “WYSIWYG” (What You See Is What You Get) display.
